Privacy notice

Last updated: 27 July 2026

opencongress.app is the entry point to the OpenCongress trackers. It has no accounts and no sign-in. This notice covers only this site; each jurisdiction's app publishes its own, fuller policy.

1. What this site processes

Nothing on this site is used to build a profile, and nothing is sold.

  • Your cookie choice — stored locally on your device, for six months, so we do not ask again on every visit.
  • Your theme and language preferences — the theme is stored locally, the language in a NEXT_LOCALE cookie that carries no expiry date, so the site opens the way you left it.
  • Aggregate audience measurement via Vercel Analytics — cookieless, and only once you have accepted.
  • Error diagnostics via Sentry, including on-error session replay — and only once you have accepted.
  • If you use the contact form: the name, email address and message you type.

2. Legal basis

Storing your language, theme and cookie choice is strictly necessary to provide the site you asked for and to honour your own decision, so it does not require consent.

Audience measurement and error diagnostics require your consent, which is why neither is initialized until you give it, and why withdrawing it takes exactly one click.

The contact form is processed on the basis of your request to be contacted.

3. Who receives it

Our processors are established in the United States; transfers rely on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.

  • Vercel Inc. (United States) — hosting and, if you accept, aggregate audience measurement. Host: Vercel Inc., 440 N Barranca Ave #4133, Covina, CA 91723, USA.
  • Functional Software, Inc. (Sentry) (United States) — if you accept, error diagnostics and on-error session replay.
  • Discord Inc. (United States) — contact-form messages are delivered to a private channel we operate.

4. Retention

Your cookie choice expires after six months and is then asked again. Your theme preference stays until you clear it; the language cookie carries no expiry date and is dropped when the browser session ends. Contact-form messages are kept only as long as needed to answer you.

Errors and replays are held by Sentry for the period set in our contract with them — see sentry.io/privacy. We do not state a number here that we cannot read off our own configuration.

5. Your rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal data we hold about you, and you may object to processing. Write to privacy@opencongress.app.

If you are in the European Union you may also lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority — in France, the CNIL (cnil.fr).

6. Session replay

This site uses Sentry on-error session replay for debugging, on exactly the same terms as the jurisdiction apps: a buffer of the page activity leading up to an error, with all text masked and media blocked, uploaded to Sentry as a United States processor.

There is no continuous recording. The buffer is held in memory in your browser and is transmitted only if an error actually occurs, and nothing is initialized at all until you accept.

Until July 2026 this site loaded no Sentry SDK, and this notice said so. It now does, so that a crash on the first page you reach is reported rather than lost in silence.
